WCU 2011 Vancouver, BC May 27-30, 2011

The first annual West Coast Unvitational; a west coast bike messenger event in Vancouver, BC. This event is to commemorate the 10 year running of the Westside Invite held in Portland, OR from 2000-2010. We started the event in hopes that it can travel to a different West Coast city every year. Let's get this rolling.

Race write up

Hey guys, Thank you so much for all the love and support to make this event what it was. Everything went extremely smooth, despite the numerous venue changes, injuries, and a little bit a heat during the cambie sprints. Friday nights Cambie sprints saw two bails in its two locations that we had people competing. No permanent damage done, Nathan L took his third time win for the sprints and Elle Fox made it the farthest for gals. Saturday we had a decent amount of early risers out for the breakfast cat. Nathan L took a second win for the weekend while getting to eat bananas, bagels, eggs, cereal, and juice. The Vancouver Dead Babies had a great ride in the afternoon with a ride from Queen Elizabeth Park to Strathcona Park with Tall Bike Jousting, 6-pack relays, skids, and trackstands. On Sunday, local favorite Dylan Davies took the win for guys and Kati J took the win for the ladies (after showing up ten minutes late) for the main race. Finally on our workday alleycat on monday, out-of-towners got to compete by dropping of love letters from our local couriers to their favorite receptionists while picking up a poker hand from our favorite bike shops. Jabber Jeff from Montreal and Matty Face from Seattle tied and Matty Face took the poker hand.

Once again, I want to thank all the sponsors and everyone who offered up their help and support to make this happen.

Friendly reminder

All of us up in Vancouver are getting more and more excited about the event. Its only a couple of months away. The deadline is approaching for passport applications, so if you Americans want to come, it's nearing your last chance. Also, alcohol and tobacco is expensive up here, make sure that you bring provisions, also I do not publicly condone drinking and racing.

Per person allowance:

1.14 litres of hard liquor

or

24 x 355ml beers, or anything adding to that amount

or

2 bottles of wine

and
one carton of smokes

The key word is OR, they will charge 155% duty on anything over.

Thomas and Linnaea are going for FREE!

Thanks to everyone that came out to Super Champion for the sprints last week and to cheers to Jamie and Nick's new ownership of the shop. A very special thanks to Thomas for letting me get second place, it sure would have been embarassing to get free entry into my own event. Linnaea got the free ticket for the girls. Don't worry boys and girls, there are at least two more chances to get in for free. We have the Gastown Sprints at Malone's on Jan. 22 and Jeff Curry's Valentine's Day race on, well, Valentine's Day.

Hot airfare deals from Atlanta

I am in the process of almalgamating airfare and travel deals: west coast buses, group airfare deals. I came upon this gem of an article. If you are in Atlanta and want to do a little hunting, there is rumor of $90 one-way airfare tickets.

THANK YOU!

Thanks to everybody braving the rain last to come out for the race. We had to put 4 people on some checkpoints from the over-saturation of help. James from Vancouver was the winner for guys, and Carrie (Kerrie, Cari, Kerry, Kari, Keri, Karie, Karrie) from Minneapolis took it home for the girls. I should have probably got the spelling of her name last night.

To anyone who couldn't come out to win free entry for the Unvitational due to other Halloween festivities, there will be more throughout the winter!

Oh yeah, and.....

Happy Halloween
